A monumental Clydesdale horse fills a tall canvas, its body divided into bold fields of saturated color. Yellows, blues, greens, reds, and violets define musculature and movement. The horse faces forward with a slight turn, its head lowered beneath a thick multicolored mane. One pale blue eye peers outward through layered strands. The legs descend into softer brushwork, ending in four differently colored, mop‑like feet. Behind the horse, a stormy grey sky swirls with white streaks. A red caravan sits low in the background. The unframed canvas emphasizes scale, energy, and chromatic intensity.

Artist Statement

This oil-over-acrylic painting was inspired by the Budweiser Clydesdales I watched at the Lorain County Fair, massive, gentle giants that moved me deeply. Titled Horse of a Different Color as a tribute to my love of The Wizard of Oz, the piece reflects the support animal I wish I could have. Horses embody strength, calm, and emotional grounding. I also hid multiple animals within the brushstrokes, representing the layered ways animals bring healing and presence into our lives. See how many reveal themselves to you.
