Why We Do It

Research and Advocacy
At Art Possible Ohio we root our work in experience and research. We know from rigorous evaluation that inclusivity, accessibility, and the arts have a tremendous positive impact on our community. This page features some of our greatest hits including research reports, resource guides, and publications to help you better understand our work and advocate for more inclusive, accessible arts experiences in your community.
The Teaching Artist gives them an overview of the idea for the project and a couple examples but allows the student to express themselves in the way they want. It’s not just an activity for use of materials. The Teaching Artist lets the kids start their work/expression and then she works with them to build on from that. - Administrator
We’ve always had such positive experiences and teaching artists have gone above and beyond. A lot of that has to do with being committed to communication, scheduling meetings, staying organized, keeping it simple, etc. - Classroom Teacher

Arts and Autism Initiative
In 2012 the mother of a young child on the autism spectrum called the Ohio Arts Council, our state agency for the arts, to find information on accessible arts opportunities. Despite numerous resources and subsequent research, no one was able to answer her question. The Ohio Arts Council commissioned Art Possible Ohio (then VSA Ohio) to design and implement a research and fact-finding study. The Arts & Autism in Ohio Initiative was born – the only initiative of its kind in the nation. Research findings and recommendations were put into strategies and action steps. These Guides are a result of that work.
We are humbled that you trust us with your generous donations and support and we strive to be good stewards of our private and public funds. Together we make art possible.
