Virtual programming has allowed us to change the way we think about programming in really exciting ways. For example, we can work with speakers and presenters that we previously would not have been able to work with because of financial or travel restrictions. It has also increased our audience. An in person ReelAbilities screening might have 10-20 attendees. A virtual one regularly has 50-100.
In September 2021 we launched a new series, Possibility Talks. Our goal is to expand the types of programming we can offer virtually and explore topics in the arts and disability. Our first three installments were a blast! We learned about the history of the Americans with Disabilities Act with Ashley Hueser, explored making boards of directors and other leadership organizations more inclusive of people with disabilities with Laura Gold, and hung out with John Bramblitt in his studio while he discussed how to build a career in the arts.
We are looking forward to continuing the series through 2022 with more artists and more big ideas.
