July 2020 Board of Directors Updates

We hope everyone is healthy and safe. There is a lot of uncertainty about what the fall will bring. We are so appreciative of your support as we build accessible and inclusive programming in the era of COVID-19 and in the midst of dramatic social action. We have posted the materials from our May meeting on the board portal. You can access them here(password TeamUnicorn).

Adaptation, Integration, and the Arts

Art Possible Ohio partnered with teaching artist Joanie Calem to provide four professional development sessions for Ohio teachers. We hosted the sessions through zoom and provided contact hours for participants through Ohio Child Care Resource and Referral Association (OCCRRA). Joanie presented It’s Cool to be Kind about using music and language to teach kindness, Different is Not Dangerous about inclusivity and accessibility, and a two part workshop Sensory Processing Disorder, ACES, PTSD and Compassionate Classrooms about trauma-informed teaching. Recordings are posted to our YouTube channel. You can view them here.

ReelAbilites Columbus

ReelAbilities Columbus Film Festival had a successful digital screening series! Nearly 200 people turned out to view our three film events – An Evening of Shorts & Virtual Talk-Back, Children’s Stop-Motion Film Festival, and Margarita with a Straw. Teaching Artist Kate Aumuller also created a two part video tutorial for making air dry clay and clay puppets at home.

We received great news this week. Our sustaining entitlement funding from the Ohio Department of Education will remain at the same level for FY 2021 – $100,000. We do not have a confirmed amount from the Ohio Arts Council yet but we expect to receive approximately $51,000. We have also applied for funding from the Greater Columbus Arts Council for $15,000 and a Kennedy Center contract for $18,000. We anticipate that we will be able to continue to offer programming and services at the same level even if we have to adapt to increased distance and digital programming options.
