Artist Statement
Hello, I’m Elizabeth and I was born with Ectrodactyly-Ectodermal Dysplasia-Clefting (EEC) Syndrome. This syndrome affects my teeth (malformations/missing), skin (highly sensitive), nails (brittle), fingers (missing) and tear ducts (blocked/missing).
I express my words in art. Dreamy Delirium is a self reflection of my pain, anxiety and wishes to be judged for me, not my outer superficial appearance. The blue bubbles covering the face are distorted as I convey how just looking at the surface is not what is deep within. The eye in the center is a photo of a friend, but represents me trapped in my own skin, looking past these judgements people have about what beauty is, and begs you to peel off the layers to see beyond skin deep.
